My love affair with Chihuahuas began in 1968 when I purchased a white smooth coat bitch as a pet. I had just graduated from college and moved away from home to a small town in South Louisiana to begin my teaching career. I lived alone and didn't know a soul. I was so lonesome and hadn't had a dog in many years, as I had given up showing Shelties when I was in college, so a small dog to keep me company seemed to be just the answer! Enter "Misty," who was my heart and soul and who continued to live with me for many years. With Misty's passing, I resumed my interest in Shelties, but never felt that I had found my "niche." It was at the Sheltie National Specialty in Dallas that I saw a blue smooth coat owned by Dianna Rockwell. I fell in love with the breed all over again and for a wedding gift in 1985, Marlene Moor of Tevroc Shelties and Chihuahuas, gave me a darling chocolate and white smooth coat bitch whom Larry and I named Corky. Corky had perfect Sheltie ears! While not a show quality animal due to her ears, she was certainly well bred, coming from Al Thomas' line of Chihuahuas that was based on Hurds and Dartan. And as the saying goes, the rest is history. My first show quality Chihuahua was Chipworth's Silver Dawn who acquired 9 points before she was retired to be the "House Mouse." I learned a lot from showing Dawnie and she was kind enough to let me learn with her! The first Chihuahua I finished, CH Tevroc Midnight Son-of-a-Gun, was bred by Marlene Moor and is still living here with me as of this writing in February, 2003. "Gizmo" had been sold at 3 months as a pet to my friend. When he started to come on and developed into a very nice dog, she was kind enough to allow me to train and show him. Gizmo finished very quickly in strong competition and came to live with us. He now loves to bask in the sun and eat and watch his children and grandchildren at play! I am a retired teacher with 31 years in the school system. Now I hope to spend more time with my dogs and catch up on some of the other things I love to do such as painting, antiquing and reading. Larry and I live in the small town of Denham Springs, Louisiana, which is right outside of Baton Rouge. While considered "in the country," we are only 3 minutes from town, which is great! We moved here from Baton Rouge because it offered what we wanted for our dogs - primarily lots of room and few neighbors! We have 6 acres, with 3 of those completely fenced. There is a 12x24 kennel building with heat, air, kitchen and grooming space as well as an intercom system, a 40 ft. long slab divided into 10 runs, each with a large fan, and a tall roof to allow for air movement, plus 3 fenced exercise areas. We are very blessed and fortunate to be able to pursue our dreams and look forward to a continued contribution to the littlest breed that we love so much. We invite you to browse our pages designed by my dear friend, Kathy Hinderliter of KANDEES CHIHUAHUAS and see the dogs we love here at FIESTA, where, in the words of my wonderful husband, Larry, "There is always room for one more, be they show dogs, pets, or rescues.
